Back to Blogging - Floorplan

Well, I'm going to get back into the blog swing of things since I have a new house to renovate and no motivation to do it!  I have heard that some people want me to keep blogging, so I shall.  If you are one of my normal blog followers, that have been so patient with me and are back, THANK YOU SO MUCH!  You are amazing.  I am going to attempt a regular posting schedule of Monday and Thursdays.  No guarantees with 2 jobs (one full time and one part time) and a toddler, but I will try my best.

I started getting motivated by searching online for help with a moodboard for both the living room and master bedroom of our new house (this is house #3 for us).

I am using floorplanner.com to make my free floorplan.  I started out trying to measure every dimension and input it into the tool, but I'm no architect, my husband doesn't measure accurately, and we don't have a need to be THAT OCD.  So I'm making do with how the dimensions compare in my head.

And voila!  Here is the current floorplan:

The colors are what each room currently has.  The white rooms have at least some amount of wallpaper (argh!).

We want to figure out a way to make the right-hand side of our house use the space we have more efficiently.  We currently have a huge laundry room, 1 whole bath, and 1 bedroom that probably could fit 2 bedrooms that share one bathroom.  I am hoping we can use the space to make a nicer bathroom, one that isn't incorporating 5 doors!!  (5 doors???  WHY WHY WHY?).  It is nice to have an inside laundry room, and I appreciate the room for storage, but it can yield some space to help our our guest bath.  Maybe we can even make a reading nook?

I also think we could make the formal living room the future dining room, turn the dining room into a play room, and expand the kitchen into the TV room a bit to allow for an island.

So here is what I want to do with the house, in the future:

And again, you can see the colors I am contemplating.  I'm excited to start painting and everything.  It would be nice if I had a handyman around, but I am going to try to build most of everything myself.

I'll give the home tour later on this week.  The pictures of this 1970s time capsule are wonderful.

Always wondered how people like a master closet that can only be accessed thru bathroom. Wonder if that is a moisture problem?
New dining is a long way from kitchen, especially if you are walking thru a play room? -- Frances

Yes to get the pantry, I didn't think we'd want another door. I've been trying to figure out a way to get more use from our room, without adding more doors! I am leaving the closet door as it is right now and just closing off the bathroom to the bedroom. So we don't have to do more moving.

Oh dear, Sam! I saw your comment, published it, and then deleted it by accident. I do agree that a closet in a bathroom can work, as long as there is sufficient ventilation. We probably would leave the door where it is and move it later, when we have more money and time. Thanks for your comment; so sorry I lost it!!
