Baby Sprinkle

I hosted a baby sprinkle for my best friend.  A baby sprinkle is a party for a 2nd or 3rd child for a parent in order to celebrate the coming, or already arrived, baby.  This one is for a little girl!  Most of my ideas were from pinterest, so I included links to DIY how-tos for the ones that aren't really my idea.

I made a little flag banner first.  I had a lot of fun making this and it definitely can be used again.  It says Sprinkled With Love.  Also works well for Valentine's Day!

Because it was a sprinkle, I made a little set of rain clouds behind the dessert table, which basically was simply my DIY cupcake stand.

I made some fortune cookie party favors with hershey kisses.

I made some pom pom flowers that can be used again.
I also made a bow making station, because this little girl has a LOT of hair.
The guests clipped their creations onto a card with a rainbow :)    The guests had a really nice time making them and signing the little homemade card.
I used a cheap bag of confetti from the Dollar Store to decorate the tables.

No party is complete without a party pooper....

Foyer - Part 1

Since I've removing wallpaper, I decided to remove the wallpaper in the foyer.  I must have really good wallpaper karma, cause this only took 15 minutes....

Before:

How could anyone actually choose this????  I just don't get what happened to humanity in 1976.

 During:
It literally came off in sheets.  No water, just pulling on each side.  I'm ready to prime!

 After:

And now I'm prepped for the primer and the paint!!

Camera Display Part 2

If you have been reading, then you know I've been coming up with a camera display.  But I hated what I did already.  It was ugly, and homey, and just too dark.  So I borrowed a shelf I was going to put up in my sewing room, and it works pretty well for the camera shelf.  This is an open shelf, so the cameras can get more light and it is easier to read the writing on the chalkboard paint.

I've also done research on these cameras (from left to right):
  •  1949 Rolleiflex Automat X
  • 1968 Nikon FTN
  • 1976 Hasselblad 2000 FCM
  • 1946 Brownie Travel Six-20
  • 1976 Polaroid Presto
  • 1957 Brownie Bullet
  • 1958 T1 Rolleiflex

I still have three more cameras to find shelving for.
And I need to fix the little paint oops on the upper right hand corner.
And this is who was supervising me tonight.  She was making notes....

Here's part 1 of this project.
Well, I hate the color that I painted.  It is much too yellow.  So I have already bought more paint and will show you pictures of that as soon as I repaint it.  In the meantime, here is the progress I have made.  I took down the wallpaper in the sink area of the bathroom, behind the mirror, and am preparing it to prime.

Before:

During:
You can see in the above picture the darker beige areas.  This wallpaper came off the walls in the same manner as the shower stall room.  The top layer came off all on its own, without water.  Then I just sprayed the beige paper with water and it would peel off.  The sheets weren't as complete as the last time, but that is surely because this area was subjected to less humidity and steam as the shower area.  In any case, it is done now!

Be gone, wallpaper!

Like I said, the next step is to prime the walls and then paint both this area and the shower area with the newer, less yellowy paint color.

Homemade School Valentines

Found this amazing idea on pinterest, since I wouldn't want someone to have their 1+ year-old bringing in candy for all the little ones.  It is simply goldfish!
pinterest
So I made these:

Here is the template, you can print it yourself.
Fishbowl Valentine Template
Just sign your child's name and you are all set!  (Font is lame brain from 1001freefonts.com in handwriting section)

It will fit inside a regular sandwich ziplock.  I simply cut freehand around the fish bowl.  I liked the more irregular fish bowl shape, so I did change up their original idea somewhat.
I already took down the wallpaper...so next is primer before I paint the walls our nice "Havana Cream" color (Behr, of course).

I used House of Hepworth's trick to protect the toilet tank.  It worked like a charm.  I was able to paint all the way behind the tank.  Whew!
You can also see that the mold in the corner of the wallboard is much better now that it has been treated.  I don't mind the darker color, we aren't going to worry about this tiny little spot.  One day we are redoing the entire bathroom anyways (motel bathrooms aren't the greatest).

After:

Here is a shot of the painted wall over the doorway.  This bathroom is tiny so its hard to take pictures.
And here you can see the yellow color I'm covering with the white primer.  Much better!
Ta da!  Complete!

Up next is showing you the finished project with new paint!  Primer makes a world of difference!

Paint Till You Drop

Well, I got to work tonight and painted the bookshelf that will eventually live in the master bedroom.  First step, aside from the already done sanding, is to prime the bookshelf.

I used the same primer that I did for the wood paneling in the living room, Valspar Bonding Primer.  It was a huge success on the last project!
And I got this little 12" shelf at Goodwill for $4.69.  I'm painting it the same color as the trim, and am going to put two of the smaller cameras on it for the camera project (ps - the camera project is getting a revamp since I wasn't too pleased with the outcome of the first part....more on that later).
And finally, I've begun on the revamp of the camera project.  Here's a sneak peak.  I think this will look fresher than the wooden shelf I was using.
Whew.  I have to go do clean up now.  Good night!

I'm a plant killer....

I've been the keeper of plants in our family since my grandpa passed away in 2009 and I'm not too good at it.  We've got problems!  Direct sunlight, not enough water, root bound plants, plants that are DEAD, and plants that wish they had a pot that was the right size.  I'm not made of money so I've been using the pots the plants were in when I got them.  And then when we moved, I potted some of my bulbs for Easter lilies, which have all been congregating on the front porch.  Ahem.

Attention, please!  Don't put the day lily plants in direct sunlight and desert dry conditions.  They will hate you for it.  Do you like the boat anchor (literally) dragging down the ambiance of the front porch?

So...(do you know someone who starts sentences with "so" because I am one of them)...I moved all the bulb lilies that don't mind direct sun to our pool area.  Hopefully they won't be too traumatized.  It was a good chance to divide up the mama bulbs from their babies and replant in a nice row.

Then I divided one pot of day lilies into two separate plants with larger pots and moved them inside for some nice low light conditions.  We don't have all that much natural light in our house and we leave most of our blinds closed, so for now they are on the kitchen table.

Sad, yes?  These plants need TLC, but they'll come back if I water them appropriately.

And finally, here is what our plants look like on the front porch.  I wish I had a couple of stands, some way to make it have more sense than, here plants, sit right here in this corner nobody puts baby in a corner.  But right now, this is better than the before, right?
